David Bowie and the Buzz performed at the Galaxy Club in Basingstoke on Monday 21 March 1966.
The club was at St Joseph’s Hall (later the Carpenters Court estate) on Western Way.
Local newspaper the Hants & Berks Gazette announced the show with the words: “David Bowie (in real life a David Jones!) entertains at Basingstoke’s Galaxy Club on Monday. This 19-year-old singer was discovered by Tony Hatch.”
The Galaxy Club was run by local promoters Galaxy Associates, owned by local butcher Ted Lilley and former drummer Gordon Gray. St Joseph’s Hall was occasionally used as a venue by the promoters; other acts performing there included the Small Faces, the Hollies, and Lulu.
