David Bowie recorded a session for BBC Radio 1’s The Dave Lee Travis Show on 20 October 1969.
The session took place at the corporation’s Aeolian Hall on New Bond Street, London. Paul Williams was the producer, and the studio engineer was Pete Ritzema.
Bowie was accompanied by the members of Junior’s Eyes who had performed on his second album: guitarists Mick Wayne and Tim Renwick, bass guitarist John Lodge, and drummer John Cambridge.
They performed three songs: ‘Let Me Sleep Beside You’, ‘Unwashed And Somewhat Slightly Dazed’, and ‘Janine’.
Only ‘Unwashed And Somewhat Slightly Dazed’ was broadcast on Travis’s show. It was also released on the special edition of the David Bowie album in 2009, as were the other two recordings.
‘Let Me Sleep Beside You’ and ‘Janine’ were released on Bowie At The Beeb on 26 September 2000.
After recording the session, which was broadcast on 26 October 1969, Bowie was interviewed by the BBC’s Brian Matthew for the Top Of The Pops transcription disc series.
