Following his appearance on the Swiss TV show Hits A GoGo, David Bowie returned to London from Zürich.
He flew there and back with his manager Kenneth Pitt, on their final flights together.
Our journey home on November 4 proved to be the last flight I was to take with David. On one occasion when I was flying with him he suddenly grabbed my arm and exclaimed ‘One of the engines is on fire.’ I glanced out of the window and noticed what I had often seen when flying, a little smoke and a faint red glow. ‘So it is,’ I said, and returned to the book I was reading. That was the only time he had shown nervousness when in flight with me and I don’t know why he developed his later much publicised fear of flying. Perhaps he had once fallen from Angela’s broomstick.
