David Bowie flew to Dublin on 5 December 1969 to film an appearance on the TV show Like Now.
Bowie performed ‘Space Oddity’ on the show, which was filmed at RTÉ’s studios in Donnybrook. It was his first professional engagement in Ireland.
David flew to Dublin on December 5 to appear in the Raidió Teilifís Éireann [RTÉ] programme Like Now, produced by Bill Keating. The fee was fifty pounds plus the cost of the air fare, but all I received was a cheque for fifty pounds. In April 1970, four months later, I was still trying to get the air fare, but the whole thing turned into an Irish joke before I finally succeeded. Several times I had to speak to a lady who, before she rang off, would say ‘Right-o Mr Bowie.’
