David Bowie and Mercury Records’ Ron Oberman travelled from Philadelphia to New York City on 27 January 1971.
They arrived in Manhattan in late morning and checked into a Holiday Inn. Bowie went sightseeing, and his destinations included Times Square, King Karol’s record store, Nat Sherman’s tobacco shop, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In the evening he watched Tim Hardin perform in Greenwich Village. Bowie was accompanied by Mercury’s PR chief Paul Nelson.
