The day after he arrived in Chicago, on 5 February 1971 David Bowie had a meeting with Mercury Records’ head of A&R, Robin McBride.
The meeting took place at Mercury’s offices at 35 East Wacker Drive, Chicago. The company was based at the address from 1950 to 1973.
Bowie was on a month-long promotional tour of the USA, which began on 23 January and ended on 18 February.
