David Bowie’s month-long promotional tour of the USA ended on 18 February 1971, and he flew overnight from Los Angeles to London.
He had arrived on the East Coast on 23 January, to start the Mercury Records-funded trip. His destinations included Washington, DC, Philadelphia, New York City, Detroit, Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Houston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
Bowie bought a number of records while in the USA, including albums by the Stooges and Kim Fowley. He was over his baggage allowance, and Mercury sent on another package of records he was unable to take.
