David Bowie appeared on the BBC’s Top Of The Pops on 9 June 1971.
He was in Peter Noone’s backing band for a performance of ‘Oh! You Pretty Things’. Noone’s version had been released in the UK on 30 April, and peaked at number 12 on the singles chart on 12 June.
This was a mimed performance. Bowie was on piano, and Hot Chocolate’s Tony Wilson was on bass guitar.
It was Bowie’s second appearance on the show. He had previously performed ‘Space Oddity’ on 2 October 1969.
