David Bowie and the Spiders From Mars performed at Liverpool Stadium on 3 June 1972.
It was the 32nd date of the Ziggy Stardust Tour, which had begun on 29 January.
During the show, midway through a performance of James Brown’s ‘You Got To Have A Job (If You Don’t Work You Can’t Eat)’, a power cut occurred. Bowie performed an ad hoc acoustic set until the power could be restored.
Liverpool Boxing Stadium, to give it its full title, was the world’s first purpose-built boxing stadium. It opened on 20 October 1932 and in the 1970s became the city’s main live music venue. It was demolished in the following decade.
