David Bowie and the Spiders From Mars performed at Bristol’s Locarno on 27 August 1972.
This was the the 49th date of the Ziggy Stardust tour, which had begun on 29 January 1972. On this occasion the support acts were Gnidrolog and Thin Lizzy.
Bowie performed 13 songs: ‘Hang On To Yourself’, ‘Queen Bitch’, ‘John, I’m Only Dancing’, ‘The Supermen’, ‘Ziggy Stardust’, ‘Moonage Daydream’, ‘Starman’, ‘This Boy’, ‘The Width Of A Circle’, ‘I’m Waiting For The Man’, ‘White Light/White Heat’, ‘Suffragette City’, and ‘Around And Around’.
The Locarno opened in 1966, with a range of entertainments including an ice rink, bowling alley, casino, nightclub, cinema, and ballroom. Much of it was demolished in 1998, but the venue reopened as a nightclub, and was later rebranded the Carling Academy and 02 Academy Bristol.
