In between his arrival in New York and the first US dates of the Ziggy Stardust Tour, David Bowie had several days of rest and rehearsal.
On the evening of 19 September 1972 he went to see the New York Dolls perform at the Mercer Arts Center in New York’s Broadway Central Hotel. With him were his wife Angie, plus band members Mick Ronson and Mick ‘Woody’ Woodmansey, plus photographer Mick Rock and his wife Sheila.
Following the show Bowie was introduced to Cyrinda Foxe, the girlfriend of the Dolls’ singer David Johansen. Foxe later worked for MainMan, appeared in the video for Bowie’s ‘The Jean Genie’, and the pair had a relationship.
