David Bowie boarded the SS Oronsay on 19 March 1973 in Los Angeles.
His ultimate destination was Japan, where the Ziggy Stardust Tour resumed on 8 April. En route, however, the ship stopped in San Francisco, Vancouver, and Hawaii, before arriving in Yokohama on 5 April.
Bowie was accompanied on the voyage by Geoff MacCormack, his friend and backing singer.
