On a night off from the Ziggy Stardust Tour, on 9 April 1973 David and Angela Bowie saw a performance by kabuki star Tomasa Boru in Tokyo, Japan.
Following the show, Boru showed Bowie how to apply kabuki make-up, which influenced the Aladdin Sane-era performances.
Earlier in the evening, the Bowies and Mick Ronson attended a tea ceremony at the Imperial Gardens at the Emperor’s Palace.
