David Bowie boarded the Felix Dzerzhinsky liner at Yokohama, Japan, on 21 April 1973.
The ship was bound for Nakhodka in Russia, arriving on 24 April. From there Bowie took the train to Khabarovsk, where Bowie took the Trans-Siberian Express to Moscow. He was accompanied on the journey by Geoff MacCormack.
