David Bowie and the Spiders From Mars performed two shows at Taunton’s Odeon on 15 June 1973.
It was the 139th date of the Ziggy Stardust Tour, which had begun on 29 January 1972. These were Bowie’s only appearances in Taunton.
Bowie performed most of the shows seated, having injuring his ankle the previous night in Salisbury.
David made an impossible leap, from the top of a speaker on to the stage-floor, and he twisted his ankle badly. He continued with the song and finished the gig, much of it sitting on a chair, and we didn’t know how bad his injury was until the following evening, when David used chairs and microphone stands as supports throughout the gig. David was always the totally committed professional, and even in the old days with David Bowie and The Buzz he had put his performance before any other consideration. He was always a hard worker, and the show went on.
