David Bowie ended a holiday in Rome on 7 August 1973, returning to London by train and boat.
He had been staying at the Villa Ofmilla just outside Rome, accompanied by his wife Angela and son Zowie, childminder Daniella Parmer, and assistant Gloria Harris, plus bodyguard Stuey George, Geoff MacCormack and his girlfriend Desna Briggs, Mick Ronson and Suzi Fussey, and chef Anton Jones.
Accompanying Bowie on the return trip were Angie and George. Bowie was keen to continue work on his plans for a stage production and album based on George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four, and to mix Pin Ups with Ken Scott at Trident Studios.
