David Bowie continued producing an album by The Astronettes on 3 January 1974.
The Astronettes – Ava Cherry, Jason Guess, and Geoff MacCormack – were a trio of singers who had backed Bowie during the recent television special The 1980 Floor Show. Bowie was also in a relationship with Cherry at this time.
This was the second of five consecutive days of recording sessions at Olympic Sound Studios in Barnes, London. The backing musicians were guitarist Mark Pritchett, bassist Herbie Flowers, keyboard player Mike Garson, and drummer Aynsley Dunbar.
The Astronettes recordings, which continued until 15 January 1974, were released in 1995 on the album People From Bad Homes. The most notable song was ‘I Am A Laser’, which Bowie later rewrote as ‘Scream Like A Baby’.
