David Bowie attended a press reception for the Edison Awards – the Netherlands’ main music event – in Amsterdam on 13 February 1974.
He was given the Most Popular Male Vocalist award by Ad Visser, host of TV show Top Pop, on which Bowie filmed an appearance that afternoon.
That evening David and Angie attended the Edison Awards ceremony in Amsterdam. It included a performance by Tony Orlando and Dawn singing ‘Tie A Yellow Ribbon’. When he saw Bowie in the audience, Orlando halted the performance and said: “Is that you? Is that really you? The fantastic star David Bowie?”
