David Bowie performed at the Festa Nazionale de l’Unità in Modena, Italy, on 8 September 1990, as part of the Sound+Vision Tour.
This was the 97th date of the tour, which began on 4 March in Quebec City.
Bowie’s guitarist was Adrian Belew, who was also the musical director. Erdal Kızılçay played bass guitar, Rick Fox was on keyboards, and Michael Hodges was on drums.
There were some issues during the performance, and Bowie told the crowd he was suffering from a cold. ‘Station To Station’ was cut short and he told the crowd: “OK, I’m gonna have to pick some easier songs, or I’m never gonna get through half of these”. Shortly after beginning the next song, ‘Fame’, he threw his guitar away and said “Fucking nightmare”.
