‘I’m Not Losing Sleep’ was the b-side of ‘I Dig Everything’, David Bowie’s third and final single for the Pye label.
Sparta, Bowie’s publishing company, had registered ‘I’m Not Losing Sleep’ under the title ‘Too Bad’, a phrase taken from the chorus.
In the studio
‘I’m Not Losing Sleep’ and ‘I Dig Everything’ were recorded on 5 July 1966, at Pye Studios in Marble Arch, London. It was produced by Tony Hatch.
The recordings featured Bowie on lead vocals, with a number of unknown session musicians providing the backing.
I couldn’t tell you for certain who played on the re-recording but in those days, for ‘rock’ sessions I always hired great musicians like Jimmy Page, John McLaughlin, Jim Sullivan, Herbie Flowers, Clem Cattini, Tony from Sounds Incorporated, Roger Coulam and Alan Hawkshaw, the ‘hooligans’ of their time.
Any Day Now, Kevin Cann
The ‘I Dig Everything’ single was released on 19 August 1966 as Pye 7N 17157. As with all of Bowie’s pre-‘Space Oddity’ releases, it was not a commercial success and failed to reach the UK charts.
