‘Killing A Little Time’ was one of several songs written by David Bowie for the 2015 musical Lazarus. It was first released on the play’s soundtrack album, and later on the No Plan EP.
The song was originally performed in the play by Michael C Hall, who also sang it on the soundtrack LP.
For ‘Killing A Little Time’ I did have more of a Blackstar version, a work in progress, that came later for Lazarus. I thought it was a tour de force. That’s a very hard sing as well, because of all the timing and the phrasing, and the way that David sings those phrases is deceptively difficult.

The No Plan EP was released on 21 October 2016, as a digital download and on compact disc and vinyl. ‘Killing A Little Time’ was the third of four songs on the EP.

The song is about a victim, a brilliant composer, a bitter survivor who was kidnapped, tied up, kicked around, beaten to within an inch of his life, held for ransom, pronounced dead at one point but was resuscitated. A bit of a Lazarus. Lost one eye in the process. Hospitalized for many months, wheelchair bound for years. Continued to write songs, but went into seclusion in Norway. Undergoes treatment for nerve damage to his hands still. Daniel my brother you are loved.
